Coat Care Essentials

Brush daily or suffer. That coat mats in days if you skip brushing. Ten minutes a day beats hours of trying to detangle (or worse, having to shave out mats).
Never brush a dry coat. Dry brushing breaks the hair and creates static. Use a detangling spray or light mist of water first—your Pom's coat will thank you.
Work in sections. Don't just brush the surface. Part the coat and brush in layers from the skin out, or you'll miss all the mats hiding underneath.
The undercoat matters most. That fluffy undercoat is what mats. A slicker brush or undercoat rake is essential—regular brushes just skim the surface.
Diet affects coat quality. Cheap food equals a dull, brittle coat. Omega-3s and quality protein make a huge difference in shine and texture.
Don't shave them. Seriously. Shaving a double coat can permanently damage it. The hair grows back patchy or not at all, and they lose temperature regulation.
