Basic Training Tips That Actually Work

Use high-value treats. Regular kibble isn't cutting it. Use small pieces of chicken, cheese, or hot dogs—something they'll actually work for.
Train before meals. A hungry Pom is a motivated Pom. Training right before dinner means they're way more interested in those treats.
One command = one word. Don't say "sit down" one time and "sit" the next. Pick one word per command and stick to it. Always.
Say it once, then wait. Repeating commands ten times just teaches them to ignore you. Say it once clearly, then give them a few seconds to respond.
End on a high note. Always finish training with something they know how to do so they get rewarded. Ending with frustration makes them hate training.
Practice everywhere. Your Pom might sit perfectly in the living room but act like they've never heard the word outside. Train in different locations.
